This church is promoting false doctrine in teaching that Christians are commanded to tithe. There is no where in scripture where those under the new covenant are commanded to tithe. There is also no where in scripture where God commanded anyone to tithe money. Under the Mosaic Law the tithe was always agricultural (food).

This church tries to use Matt 23:23 to say that Jesus supported tithing. However, upon closer inspection you will see that Jesus is addressing the Pharisees (people under Mosaic Law) when he said they were correct in tithing. He also clearly states that it was a matter of the Law. (He had not yet been to the cross and the new covenant had yet to be ushered in.) Finally, note that the Pharisees were tithing food items - not money. For those who think they didn't have money, refer to Genesis 23:16, Genesis 47:14, Deuteronomy 14:24-26, and Matthew 22:19.

Tithing is not necessary for those in Christ.
2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV: Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
